The Ultimate Airsoft Buyers Guide

With the rising popularity of airsoft in the last decade, its no wonder that the lack of information on the web can be frustrating, especially for those looking for the absolute best airsoft guns for their situation, and the best airsoft gun brands. Here at ukairsoft.net, we decided to confront this frustration with a comprehensive buyers guide, for everybody from the beginner to the expert. Some of the best airsoft guns in the world are found in this list.

When choosing an airsoft gun, choosing something you would be comfortable with is important, along with the power behind the gun and preferred shooting method; gas blowback, AEG, or spring powered rifles.

If you own an actual gun; say, for example, a semi-automatic M4 rifle, this exists in airsoft as well and can be utilized to your advantage.

This particular gun is manufactured by Black Ops. Check them out on Amazon.com.

This similarity between real firearms and airsoft guns is an advantage for those looking for tactile superiority. Real life battles can take place in backyards without actual damage to property or people.

With a quality gun, it is easy to train in these situations with accuracy and skill to a level where you could compete against other players.

What to Look For In An Airsoft Gun

I’m sure that, for many beginners, this is an important question to grasp.

Airsoft guns come in 3 different types, with a variety of models. These are:

  • Spring Powered Guns, or Springers. These guns utilize springs to shoot BBs, are the cheapest of the three, and can be great beginner guns but can fall short for more intermediate to advanced use.
  • Electric Airsoft Guns, or AEGs. These guns are the most common, utilize electricity to shoot BBs, and can range from beginner to expert level specifications. When looking for an automatic rifle, this would be where I would start.
  • Gas Blowback, or GBB. These guns utilize gas such as CO2 to shoot BBs, actually blowback like a real gun and resemble real life firearms the closest. When looking for a quality firearm such as a pistol, I’d recommend a gas blowback.

These specs are the underlying foundation for all types of airsoft guns and should be considered when looking for a good airsoft gun.

How Fast Do Airsoft Guns Shoot?

The firing speed for these guns can vary depending on what gun you get.

For example, AEGs can fire up to 1000 rounds/minute!

Gas blowback pistols, as another example, fire usually as fast as the user can pull the trigger.

For springers, the firing rate depends on how fast one can recock the spring. Hence, this is why springers are good for beginners but often fall short in more professional military simulations and other airsoft battles.

Overall, it really depends on the gun you choose.

What Do Airsoft Guns Shoot?

Airsoft guns shoot plastic pellets known as BBs. Usually, these pellets come in 6mm size and vary in density, like .20 or .25 and above. The higher the density, the heavier the pellet and usually the harder the sting. Density is important for the type of gun you plan to use:

  • .12 and under – These weights are lighter and for more beginner guns. They pack little power and work best in springers.
  • .20-.25 – This weight range is perfect for many applications, such as GBB, springers, and AEGs alike.
  • .25 and above – Anything above .25 often is used in sniper applications, or by user preference.

Keep in mind that the weight of the pellets determines how hard they hit, how far they travel, and should be used in accordance with your gun’s manufacturer. Nothing sucks more than buying a bulk amount of pellets for a gun that you can’t use without jamming the gun or performing poorly.

Conclusion

With so many choices, it’s hard to choose what may be right for your situation. My best piece of advice before making a purchase is to go to a range and test some real weapons for a feel of what kind you would like. If you know a friend who owns an airsoft rifle, give ’em a call and see if they’ll let you try it out.

A few questions you should ask yourself are:

  • Do I want AEG/Spring/GBB?
  • Do I need a variety of guns?
  • Am I looking for quality, or just to get my foot into the door?
  • Do I need an exact replica?

These all play into the decision making process and can impact your decision immensely, so do your due diligence before making a decision. Gas and electric offer that rate of fire, and spring offers a lower price point.

This is the first step: choosing your weapon.

From here, it all goes uphill. 🙂
