What Are Airsoft Guns Used For?
Airsoft is very similar to another popular sport: paintball.
Unlike paintball, however, airsoft doesn’t have the iconic paintball hoppers, but replica guns. This is where the appeal stems, because of the realism associated with it. You don’t have to work around a hopper and a paintball guns where you can purchase a gun that resembles the real thing.
Airsoft guns can be used in a variety of ways, taking into account that safety is ultimately the priority when dealing with projectiles. Two common uses come to mind when we talk about airsoft:
- Target Practice. This is fun, but with a shoddy gun your aim won’t matter if the gun can’t shoot straight. Get a good gun from our product reviews here.
- Airsoft Battles. Yeah, baby. This right here is what we live for. Nothing that unsuspected strike, leaving your opponent in the dust.
I’m sure there are more uses for these guns, but as far as practicality goes, this seems to be the most apparent usage.
What Do Airsoft Guns Shoot?
Airsoft guns shoot plastic pellets known as BB’s. These pellets come in different weights and vary depending on application. There are even biodegradable bbs!
Unlike pellet guns, airsoft shoots plastic pellets; while these pellets hurt (but not for long!), the pain isn’t comparable to paintball; its almost a mix between typical airguns and paintball, where you can shoot pellets at someone but it doesn’t do enough damage to seriously hurt someone. How Much Do Airsoft Guns Cost?
Well, it depends on what kind of gun you’re looking at, and the price point you’re willing to spend.
What Are Spring Airsoft Guns?
Spring guns are common, and inexpensive. Check them out on Amazon.com.
Spring guns are guns that utilized spring operated mechanisms to shoot projectile plastic pellets. As far as a good airsoft starter kit for those looking to get into the game, this isn’t a bad idea. For intermediate or more advanced players, getting a good AEG or gas blowback might be your go-to, as it is usually best to get the best airsoft gun brand. More on spring guns here.
What Are Electric Airsoft Guns (AEGs)?
Kalishnikov is a huge brand with quality guns. Check them out on Amazon.com.
Electric airsoft guns, or AEGs are airsoft guns that utilize electricity to fire projectile plastic pellets. When looking for a quality automatic rifle, AEGs will be your go-to, but be wary: pick the right one. This is important for those looking for a great gun, as there are many crap guns that won’t do anything but shoot off target and not produce enough power. More on AEGs here.
What Are Gas Blowback Airsoft Guns?
Black Ops specializes in airsoft equipment, including gas blowback. Check them out on Amazon.com.
Gas blowback guns, or GBB, are airsoft guns that utilize CO2 to fire projectile plastic pellets at high velocity. These guns represent real model weapons closer than any other airsoft weapon, as the blowback part of the name literally means that the chamber blows back, similar to the chamber in a real gun! These guns are the highest quality aside from AEGs, drive a higher price point, and generally shoot at high FPS (feet per second). More on GBBs here.
